Meeting the lock standard your insurer names

Insurers write the same two standards into most policies whether you own a whole house near the Common or a one-bedroom flat in a conversion. On a timber final-exit door that is a BS3621 five-lever mortice deadlock. On any door that takes a euro cylinder it is TS007, met either with a 3-star anti-snap cylinder or a 1-star cylinder paired with a 2-star handle. Converted flats raise a question the policies do not always answer: which door counts as the final exit? Usually it is your own flat door rather than the communal one, because the shared door is outside your control. In practice that means a BS3621 deadlock on the flat door, fitted so it does not compromise the fire rating, with the communal door improved separately through the freeholder or managing agent. Landlords, HMOs and Ealing Broadway premises
